77 Isha Foundation Pilgrims Missing After Flash Flood at Tibet-Nepal Border
At least 77 pilgrims associated with Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev’s Isha Foundation have reportedly gone missing following a catastrophic flash flood that struck the Gyirong Port area along the Tibet-Nepal border on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place while the group was returning from the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage. The pilgrims had stopped at the Gyirong immigration office when the sudden surge of water struck the area.
The deadly deluge caused massive destruction along the Bhote Koshi river basin before sweeping across into Nepal’s northern Rasuwa district. The floodwaters washed away crucial infrastructure, bridges, and residential buildings across the impacted border area.
Sharing footage of the devastation on social media, Sadhguru expressed deep anguish over the disaster and confirmed that one of their pilgrimage batches had been caught directly in the flash flood.
“A terrible and tragic flash flood has taken place at Gyirong in Tibet - China, and one of our Kailash groups was caught in it. While on their way back, they were at the immigration office when the flood occurred,” Sadhguru said.
“All of us, including the volunteers and support teams, are deeply anguished and are doing our utmost to assist in the rescue. There has been no official information on the whereabouts of any of the people who were at the immigration office. We are working with the authorities to see if we can get to the location and stand ready to be part of the rescue efforts, regardless of the risk involved,” he added.
Following the incident, local authorities and emergency response agencies across the border region launched wide-scale search and rescue missions.
Diplomatic missions, including the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Nepal, are coordinating with local administrations to trace the missing individuals. Teams are working to provide emergency logistics, medical care, and evacuation assistance to those affected by the deluge.
