DVAC Registers FIR Against Former Tamil Nadu Minister KN Nehru in Cash-for-Jobs Case

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against former Tamil Nadu municipal administration and water supply minister K.N. Nehru. The case, which is connected to an alleged cash-for-jobs scam, was formally disclosed in Chennai before the Madras High Court on Friday during a scheduled legal hearing.

The revelation was made before the court's first division bench, which is currently presided over by Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan. The bench is hearing a contempt petition that accuses the DVAC of failing to register a case in a timely manner despite prior judicial instructions.

AIADMK Rajya Sabha member I.S. Inbadurai filed the contempt petition against the DVAC officials. Inbadurai's petition argued that the agency officials had failed to comply with the High Court's direct order to register the FIR.

During the Friday proceedings, Advocate General Vijay Narayan informed the division bench that the DVAC had finally registered the FIR. Narayan explained that the anti-corruption agency took the step after obtaining his formal legal opinion on the matter.

The background of the case dates back to earlier this year. Advocate General Narayan stated that the High Court had issued a directive on February 20, 2026, ordering the DVAC to register an FIR without any delay regarding the cash-for-jobs complaint.

Alongside the ongoing contempt petition against the DVAC officials, the first division bench is also currently hearing a review petition. This review petition was filed by Nehru himself in his personal capacity.

The registration of the FIR initiates a formal legal investigation and corruption case against the former state minister, who previously held the municipal administration and water supply portfolios. The court proceedings remain ongoing as both the contempt petition and Nehru's review petition are considered.
