Vignesh Shivan Releases Tamil Sci-Fi Romance Film LIK Set in 2040 Chennai

Director Vignesh Shivan's new Tamil feature film, LIK: Love Insurance Kompany, has debuted in theatres, presenting a futuristic romance set in a vividly imagined, tech-driven Chennai of the year 2040. Released on April 3, 2026, the high-energy entertainer explores whether technology can map something as unpredictable and deeply felt as love.

The film, which has been described as a youthful romance with a futuristic setting and a familiar heart, grapples with contemporary questions about technology's role in human relationships.

The story centers on Suriyan, played by SJ Suryah, who is the creator of a compatibility app called LIK. Suriyan firmly believes that his digital creation can replace the human heart when it comes to matters of romance.

However, his theory is challenged by Vibe Vassey, played by Pradeep Ranganathan. Vassey is the voice of the app and the son of a naturalist, played by Seeman. Vassey disputes the technology's authority after the algorithm declares him incompatible with Dheema, played by Krithi Shetty, who is the woman who literally stops his heart.

Despite its science-fiction trappings, the film is essentially an old-school romance between two individuals who have been shaped by opposing belief systems.

The production features a glossy, futuristic depiction of Chennai. This visual world-building was crafted by director of photography Ravi Varman, production designer Muthuraj, and the film's visual effects team.

Composer Anirudh provided the soundtrack for the film, which makes the production feel breezy and youthful. The cast of the film also features actor Yogi Babu.

The film has received a critic's rating of 3.5 out of 5, while the average user rating stands at 2.7 out of 5. The movie has been described as a colorful entertainer that balances playful spectacle with moments of genuine warmth, alongside occasional reflections on technology's growing hold over human lives.
