TN Finance Minister to Table Audit Report on DMK Corruption in Budget Session
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister N Marie Wilson announced late on Sunday that the state government will table an audit report on alleged corruption during the previous DMK regime in the upcoming Assembly Budget session. Speaking at a public function in the Harbour constituency in Chennai, Wilson stated that the report will detail financial irregularities carried out under the pretext of raising party funds.
The Finance Minister directly targeted former DMK minister P K Sekar Babu, who currently represents the Harbour Assembly constituency. Wilson criticized the DMK leader for questioning the nature of party funds and feigning ignorance about fund collection during the previous government's tenure. He stated that the forthcoming audit report would contain a list of corrupt practices and expose the former minister's actions.
The remarks were made during Wilson's first official event in the Harbour constituency, which was held to distribute commendation certificates to Class 10 and Class 12 students. Wilson explained that the government is actively preparing the report to present it before the House during the Budget proceedings.
When pressed by reporters after the event for additional details regarding the scope of the audit report, Wilson declined to elaborate further, telling journalists to "wait and watch." He indicated that further specifics regarding the audit findings would be disclosed by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.
The upcoming presentation will mark the first Budget of the C Joseph Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government since taking office after winning the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Wilson is scheduled to present the state Budget in the Assembly on August 5. The Assembly Business Advisory Committee will also convene on August 5 to decide the exact duration and schedule of the legislative session.
In addition to the audit report, Wilson addressed the issue of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) during his address to the students. He stated that the TVK leadership is actively working on a plan to ensure the complete abolition of the entrance examination across the country. Drawing a comparison to TVK's political victory in Tamil Nadu in 2026, Wilson claimed that a broader political shift during the 2029 Lok Sabha elections would lead to a permanent nationwide end to the national screening test.
