Tamil Nadu to Build Olympic City and Motor Sports City in Chennai

Tamil Nadu is set to expand its sports infrastructure with plans to establish an Olympic City and a dedicated Motor Sports City in Chennai. Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay announced the two major development initiatives in the state Assembly on Thursday under Rule 110.

The proposed Tamil Nadu Olympic City will be developed directly by the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority. According to the plan announced in the House, the facility will feature international-standard sports arenas and advanced sporting equipment to serve competitive athletes.

Key components of the Olympic City project include a specialized High Performance Training Centre alongside dedicated Sports Science and Sports Medicine centres. The complex will also house accommodation facilities designed for sportspersons as well as their coaches.

The integrated sports hub aims to offer athletes comprehensive access to modern training, competition grounds, and professional support facilities. The broader objective of the project is to help Tamil Nadu athletes secure more medals at the Olympic Games and other major international sporting competitions.

In addition to the Olympic City, a separate Motor Sports City will be developed in Chennai. The project will feature a state-of-the-art motorsports complex accompanied by supporting track and paddock infrastructure.

The motorsports facility is planned to host premier international racing events, including Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3, and Formula 4 competitions. The project will also provide dedicated training opportunities and resources for aspiring motorsport athletes in the region.
