Security Guard Found Dead at MEPZ Complex in Tambaram, Police Rule Out Foul Play

A security guard was found dead inside the Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) complex in Tambaram during the early hours of Sunday, July 26, 2026. Following an investigation into the incident, police authorities ruled out any foul play, determining that the guard had sustained a fatal fall while in a heavily intoxicated state.

The deceased guard was identified as Muniyan, who resided in Nehru Nagar in Kadapperi near Tambaram. A senior official from the Tambaram Police Commissionerate confirmed that Muniyan had been employed for the past eight months as a security guard at a private pharmaceutical company situated inside the MEPZ campus in Tambaram.

According to police accounts, Muniyan had reported for his routine work duty on Saturday, July 25, night at the pharmaceutical company. However, after his shift ended, he did not return to his residence in Kadapperi as expected.

Concerned by his absence, a relative of the deceased raised an alert with the authorities. In response, the Tambaram police immediately launched a search operation to trace his whereabouts within and around the complex.

A police team searching the area subsequently discovered Muniyan lying dead near the premises of the pharmaceutical firm. The victim was found lying in a pool of blood, having suffered a severe injury to the left side of his face.

Senior officials from the Tambaram Police Commissionerate examined the scene and reviewed surveillance footage gathered from the premises. Inquiries and a careful analysis of the CCTV footage established that there was no foul play in the death. The investigation concluded that Muniyan was heavily drunk, fell down, and died from the fall.

Tambaram Police Inspector Chelladurai inspected the crime scene where the body was discovered. Following the completion of on-site procedures, the police sent the body of the deceased security guard to the Tambaram Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
