Ripon Buildings Lit Green on Monday to Mark World Hepatitis Day

The headquarters of the Greater Chennai Corporation, the Ripon Buildings, was illuminated in green on Monday evening to mark World Hepatitis Day. The public awareness initiative was organized by the civic body in collaboration with the Chennai Liver Foundation and the Rotary Club of Chennai Towers.

The campaign aimed to draw attention to viral hepatitis, a major cause of chronic liver disease that frequently goes undiagnosed until severe complications develop. Organizers emphasized that without early detection, the infection can progress to life-threatening conditions such as cirrhosis or liver cancer.

Highlighting preventative measures, the participating organizations stressed the importance of hepatitis B vaccination, prompt diagnosis, and timely treatment in lowering the disease's overall impact. They urged at-risk individuals to undergo testing and learn their hepatitis status.

Organizers noted that enhancing public awareness, expanding screening programs, and ensuring access to healthcare services are critical steps toward reaching the global objective of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat.
