Over 1,500 Join Rotary Rajan Eye Donation Awareness Rally in Chennai

The Rotary Rajan Eye Bank Eye Donation Awareness Rally was organised on Sunday in Chennai, continuing a 24-year-long tradition of creating awareness about eye donation. Jointly organised by Rajan Eye Care Hospital and Rotary Rajan Eye Bank, the rally urged members of the public to pledge their eyes to help restore sight to people affected by corneal blindness.
The awareness drive was officially flagged off by Health Minister Arun Raj, along with celebrities Shanthanu and Keerthi Bhagya Raj. The presence of the health minister and celebrities helped lead the awareness campaign, calling on citizens across the city to gift sight by pledging their eyes.
More than 1,500 rotaractors and interactors from various schools and colleges participated in the rally. Doctors, healthcare staff, and students of Rajan Eye Care Hospital joined the students, mobilizing youth to spread awareness about corneal blindness and inspiring more people to pledge their eyes for donation.
Rotary Governor Sriram Divvuri and Dr Poornima, president of the Rotary Club of Madras, T Nagar, were also present at the gathering to extend their support to the eye donation drive.
Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Arun Raj announced that he was pledging his own eyes for donation and urged members of the public to come forward and make a similar commitment. He highlighted Tamil Nadu’s leadership in organ donation and emphasised that restoring vision to an individual with corneal blindness can truly transform a life.
Dr Mohan Rajan, chairman of Rajan Eye Care Hospital, addressed the participants and emphasised the important role of celebrity endorsement in strengthening public awareness for healthcare initiatives.
Dr Sujatha Mohan, director of Rotary Rajan Eye Bank, participated in the rally along with hospital doctors, staff, and students. Concluding the event, the participating dignitaries and attendees reaffirmed their commitment by signing the Eye Donation Pledge, strengthening the campaign’s call for greater public participation under the central message: ‘Donate eyes. Gift sight. Let your vision live on.’
