Online tool helps India Class 12 students predict CBSE board exam scores

An online score predictor tool was launched in India in 2021 to assist Class 12 students in estimating their final board exam percentages. Developed by the Times of India, the CBSE 12th Result Predictor was designed to help students calculate their marks based on the official evaluation criteria declared by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

The launch of the tool came during a period of significant uncertainty for high school students across the country. At the time, the Central Board of Secondary Education had cancelled the Class 10 board examinations, and the revised dates for the Class 12 board examinations had not yet been announced. This left students with questions regarding whether the CBSE would conduct the 2021 board exams, when the exams would commence, and when the board would announce the final results.

To address these uncertainties, the online calculator was introduced to provide students with an estimate of their final Class 12th percentage through a simple three-step process. In the first step of the calculator, students are required to select their specific Class 12 subjects. The tool specifies that users must choose at least five subjects, with a maximum of seven subjects permitted for the calculation.

The calculator then uses the official CBSE evaluation criteria to estimate the final score. However, the developers of the tool issued a disclaimer stating that the calculated scores are based on certain assumptions. As a result, the predicted percentages may not reflect the exact scores that will be used for official college admissions.

The tool was made accessible online to help students navigate the academic delays and estimate their performance while awaiting official date sheets and announcements from the CBSE.
