Nineteen-year-old arrested for allegedly murdering mother in Perungudi

A 19-year-old man was arrested by the Thoraipakkam police on Monday for allegedly murdering his 43-year-old mother at their home in Kurunji Nagar, Perungudi. The incident took place during the early hours of Monday, around 1:00 AM, inside the family's residence.
The deceased woman was identified as Chheni Devi Babulal, who lived in Kurunji Nagar. Her son, 19-year-old Rakesh, was arrested at the scene by the police.
According to the Thoraipakkam police, the victim's husband was not at home during the incident. He had travelled to Rajasthan approximately 15 days ago following the death of a close relative, leaving the rest of the family at their Perungudi home.
On Sunday night, the family members were sleeping in the same room of the house. Police officials stated that Chheni Devi was sleeping on the floor. At around 1:00 AM on Monday, Rakesh allegedly attacked his mother. He is accused of first strangling her with a piece of cloth and then stabbing her on the left side of her neck using a kitchen knife.
Immediately after the attack, Rakesh came out of the house and began shouting for help. A neighbour, identified as Gangaram, heard the shouting and immediately called the 108 ambulance service for medical assistance.
Paramedics arrived at the residence shortly after the call. Upon examining Chheni Devi, they declared her dead at the scene. The paramedics then alerted the Thoraipakkam police about the death.
Inspector Vimal of the Thoraipakkam Police Station, who was on night patrol in the area, reached the spot after receiving the information. He arrested Rakesh at the residence. The police team recovered Chheni Devi's body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
