New Kilambakkam Police District to Be Formed Under Tambaram Commissionerate

A new Kilambakkam police district and police range will be formed under the Tambaram Commissionerate by reorganising existing jurisdictions, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay announced in the Assembly on Thursday. A new deputy commissioner post will be created at Kilambakkam to directly oversee law and order and traffic management around the Kilambakkam bus terminus.

The administrative restructuring is aimed at strengthening law and order, public safety, and traffic management amid rapid urbanisation and infrastructure development around Kilambakkam and Avadi. As part of the broader changes, a new Poonamallee police district and a Thirumazhisai police sub-division will also be established by bifurcating the existing Avadi police district and Poonamallee police range, respectively.

Alongside the creation of new territorial boundaries, the Organised Crime Intelligence Unit will introduce a secure, web-based intelligence and case management platform titled 'Office Automation with Synchronised Information System (OASIS) - Enhanced Data Gathering and Evaluation (EDGE)'. The platform will centralise the recording, tracking, approval, and dissemination of all crime-related intelligence.

The OASIS-EDGE system is set to replace legacy paper-based workflows and reduce duplication, including the manual sharing of incident reports via WhatsApp. It will provide senior police officers with real-time operational information across jurisdictions.

According to the announcement, the platform will cover the entire lifecycle of police cases, extending from field-level reporting and approvals to First Information Report (FIR) registration, amendments, document generation, and official dissemination. A wide spectrum of matters, ranging from narcotics and drug trafficking seizures to murder cases, will be documented and managed through the new centralised digital platform.
