Mylapore forensic officer injured falling from train in phone theft bid

A 26-year-old forensic officer attached to the Forensic Division in Mylapore suffered serious head and facial injuries on Sunday night after falling from a moving suburban train near Tambaram Sanatorium railway station while attempting to resist a phone snatcher.

The victim, identified by police as Adolin Prabha, hails from Tenkasi district and resides at a working women’s hostel near Lighthouse. The incident occurred on Sunday night as she was returning home from work aboard a Chennai Beach-bound EMU train.

According to police reports, Prabha was speaking on her mobile phone inside the train's general compartment. Just as the train began departing from the Tambaram Sanatorium railway station, an assailant forcefully snatched the phone out of her hand.

Prabha attempted to hold on to her mobile phone during the struggle, causing her to lose her footing and fall off the moving train. She sustained severe injuries to her face and head as a result of the fall.

Passengers inside the compartment who witnessed her fall immediately acted to halt the train. They overpowered the accused, identified as 27-year-old Ajay, before he could exit the train and handed him over to personnel from the Railway Protection Force. Police noted that Ajay was allegedly high on ganja at the time of the offense.

Prabha was rushed by ambulance to the Tambaram Government Hospital, where medical staff administered first aid. She was subsequently transferred to a private hospital for further treatment, where she received 10 sutures for her head and facial wounds. Sources confirmed that she is currently out of danger.

During questioning, Ajay refused to cooperate with authorities and insisted that the phone belonged to his wife. Later, his wife arrived at the Tambaram Railway Police Station and caused a scene while demanding his release.

Police registered a formal case, recovered Prabha's stolen mobile phone, and remanded Ajay in judicial custody.
