Manapakkam Residents Urge GCC Action Against Stray Cattle in Marvel Riverview County

Residents of Marvel Riverview County in Manapakkam have urged the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to initiate sustained action against stray cattle roaming inside the residential area. The presence of the animals on internal streets poses a severe safety hazard to pedestrians, particularly after dark when visibility is reduced.

Marvel Riverview County comprises around 10 streets and accommodates more than 200 families. According to local residents, the neighbourhood has been grappling with the issue for an extended period. Cattle owners frequently bring their animals to graze on the outskirts of the colony, but the cattle end up wandering directly into the residential lanes when they are left loosely tied.

The roaming cattle have raised significant concerns among residents regarding pedestrian safety, especially for vulnerable groups navigating the neighbourhood.

"We have been facing this problem for a long time. When cattle wander into the streets, pedestrians, especially senior citizens and children, have to be cautious. The risk is greater at night when visibility is poor. We have repeatedly brought the issue to the attention of the GCC, both individually and through the residents’ association, but enforcement has been ineffective, with officials often saying that Corporation teams did not find cattle during raids," said V Nagarajan of the Marvel Riverview County Owners Welfare Association.

In response to repeated claims by civic authorities that inspection teams found no cattle on site, residents recently took photographs of the animals roaming through the colony's streets and shared the photographic evidence directly with the concerned zonal official to prompt enforcement.
