Man Arrested in Thudiyalur After Stray Dogs Thwart Sexual Assault on Woman

Police have arrested a man identified as Bhoopathi after he allegedly attempted to sexually assault a homeless woman with mental disabilities beneath a railway bridge on the national highway in the Thudiyalur area of Coimbatore. The incident occurred around 2 am on Thursday and was interrupted when two stray dogs intervened, attacked the suspect, and chased him away.
According to reports, the incident unfolded as Bhoopathi was walking along the stretch of road and noticed the woman lying on the roadside. The woman, who has mental disabilities and lives on the streets, was alone at the spot. After allegedly ensuring that no other people were present in the immediate vicinity, the accused approached her.
Frightened by his approach, the woman began screaming for help, but there was no one nearby at the time to come to her assistance. Bhoopathi allegedly grabbed her in the middle of the road. Although the woman attempted to resist, the accused overpowered her and proceeded with the attempted assault.
The situation changed when two stray dogs present on the road witnessed the attack. The dogs began barking loudly and charged at the man. When Bhoopathi did not release the woman, the dogs bit him and chased him away from the location, allowing her to escape further harm.
The incident came to light after closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage capturing the confrontation surfaced. The video recording, which captured the stray dogs rushing in to defend the woman and biting the assailant, was subsequently shared widely on social media platforms.
Based on the footage, local police moved to apprehend Bhoopathi in connection with the alleged attempted sexual assault. Police stated that the accused was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
