German Firm ZEISS Opens Innovation Hub at IIT Madras Research Park

German optical systems and optoelectronics manufacturer ZEISS has launched an innovation hub at the IIT Madras Research Park in Chennai. The company announced the opening of the centre in a release issued on Thursday.

The new facility is set to focus on advanced frugal engineering, harsh-environment optics, robotics, and fluid dynamics. According to the company, the centre will promote interdisciplinary research tailored for real-world industrial applications while fostering collaboration to validate new concepts, advance research projects, and translate those ideas into scalable solutions.

The hub is designed to strengthen ties between the global research network of ZEISS and the broader IIT Madras ecosystem. It aims to bring together faculty members, researchers, startups, and industry representatives. Additionally, the initiative will facilitate researcher exchanges, support postgraduate research, and enable closer engagement directly with IIT Madras students and graduates.

Andreas Pecher, president and chief executive of the ZEISS Group, stated that the hub reflects the company's confidence in the evolving innovation ecosystem of the country and its expanding importance as a strategic market. He noted that the ecosystem at IIT Madras Research Park offers an ideal platform to co-develop future-ready solutions and help shape next-generation technologies for India and the global market.

Natarajan Malupillai, group chief executive officer of IIT Madras Research Park, remarked that the partnership presents an opportunity to combine complementary strengths, which will help accelerate frontier research and lead to the development of globally competitive technologies.
