Four Arrested in Tiruvottiyur for Beating Man to Death Over Harassment Dispute

A 35-year-old daily wage labourer was beaten to death by a gang at Tiruvottiyur after his younger brother confronted them for harassing a college student. Four men have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody in connection with the fatal assault.

The victim, identified as Muniswaran of Sathangadu, was walking near the Annamalai railway gate around midnight on August 29 when the group intercepted him. The encounter stemmed from an altercation earlier that night involving Muniswaran’s younger brother, 22-year-old Sunil.

According to police, the gang initially mistook Muniswaran for Sunil. During their interaction, the attackers realised that the man was actually Sunil’s elder brother and began demanding information regarding Sunil's whereabouts.

When Muniswaran told the group that he did not know where Sunil was, a heated argument broke out. Police said the gang then attacked Muniswaran with wooden logs, inflicting severe head injuries before fleeing the scene.

Muniswaran was rushed to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital for urgent medical care. He remained under intensive treatment at the facility until he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.

The Sathangadu police initially registered a case of assault and arrested four suspects: Yogeshwaran, 22; Johnson, 19; Jayanthan, 19; and Jeeva, 18. Following the victim's death, police altered the charges to include murder. All four accused have been remanded in judicial custody.
