Dr. J.S.N. Murthy Receives Lifetime Achievement Award at TIC 2026 Conference

On Saturday, July 18, 2026, renowned cardiologist Dr. J.S.N. Murthy was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at TIC 2026, the annual conference of the Tamil Nadu Interventional Council. The prestigious award was presented to him by Tamil Nadu Health Minister K.G. Arunraj and Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar. Dr. Murthy is widely recognized in the region as the former Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Cardiology at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute, located in Chennai.

The accolade recognizes Dr. Murthy’s outstanding medical career, which has spanned more than forty years. Throughout his four decades of service, Dr. Murthy has quietly lived and worked by a simple, powerful belief that no patient should ever be denied medical treatment because of poverty.

In addition to his academic and clinical work at Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute, Dr. Murthy has built a legacy of disaster relief and humanitarian service across India. His efforts to help those in crisis began during the aftermath of the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, when he traveled to provide medical aid in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

His disaster response work continued in subsequent years, as he provided vital medical support during the 2014 Jammu & Kashmir floods, as well as the 2017 floods in Kerala.

Dr. Murthy’s commitment to healthcare access also led to a significant pediatric cardiac initiative in 2023. During this project, he helped coordinate the transport of children suffering from congenital heart disease from Mizoram to Chennai, ensuring they received life-saving heart surgeries that they otherwise might not have accessed.

The presentation at the Tamil Nadu Interventional Council's annual conference honored Dr. Murthy’s long-standing dedication to medicine and his philosophy of compassionate care that transcends geographic and financial barriers.
