Couple Detained After Attempt to Breach CM Convoy Near Secretariat

A couple was detained by the police near the Secretariat in Chennai on Thursday after attempting to breach Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's convoy. According to the police, the couple are the parents of a custodial death victim.

The incident occurred when the duo made a frantic bid to break through the police security cordon and stop the chief minister's convoy, apparently aiming to submit a petition to him. Police personnel stationed along the route overpowered the couple and took them into custody.

"They suddenly ran into the security perimeter of the chief minister's moving fleet but were immediately chased and detained by the police for questioning," an official said regarding the incident.

Due to the sudden commotion on the road, Chief Minister Vijay's vehicle briefly slowed down while police personnel frisked the duo away from the motorcade's path.

A preliminary enquiry by the police revealed that the couple are relatives of a young engineering graduate from Manamadurai in Sivaganga district. The youth allegedly died in police custody in March this year, and his family has been staging protests seeking justice for his death.
