CM C Joseph Vijay Reviews 436 Projects in First Cabinet Meeting at Chennai Secretariat

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Friday chaired his government's first cabinet meeting at the Secretariat in Chennai, reviewing 436 developmental projects and welfare schemes. The hour-long meeting, which commenced at 10:00 AM, focused on expediting key poll promises made by the TVK ahead of the assembly elections and streamlining governance across various state departments.
During the session, the cabinet discussed the roadmap for implementing the reviewed initiatives. Electricity Minister R Nirmalkumar addressed reporters after the meeting, stating that projects and schemes relating to individual departments were formally assigned to the respective ministers for further action.
"As many as 436 projects and schemes, including the party’s poll promises, were discussed in the cabinet meeting and each minister has been given projects and schemes concerning their respective departments," Nirmalkumar told reporters.
The minister explained that the discussions during the cabinet meeting also centered on broader governance goals, specifically achieving a corruption-free and drug-free Tamil Nadu. The cabinet further discussed measures to meet the aspirations of the state's youngsters and women.
In the industries department alone, the cabinet discussed 37 distinct projects, which were subsequently assigned to the ministry to be taken forward. To ensure these initiatives are executed efficiently, Chief Minister Vijay instructed the ministers to hold discussions with the officials of their concerned departments and prepare detailed reports to achieve the targets.
The cabinet meeting also focused on the Governor’s forthcoming address to the Assembly.
Additionally, when questioned by reporters about Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu project, Minister Nirmalkumar affirmed the state's stance, stating that the Tamil Nadu government would take all necessary legal actions to oppose it. "We will take all legal actions to thwart the Mekedatu project," the minister said.
