BJP Accepts K Annamalai Resignation From Primary Membership

CHENNAI — Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin on Friday accepted the resignation of the party's former Tamil Nadu state chief, K Annamalai, from the primary membership of the party. The acceptance of his resignation follows days of intense political speculation regarding his future role and position.
Annamalai, a former IPS officer who is widely referred to as "Singham" by his supporters, is expected to outline his future course of action during a social media interaction scheduled for Friday at noon. The upcoming announcement has intensified local buzz and speculation that the leader may launch a new political outfit.
Before his resignation was officially accepted, Annamalai had been camping in Delhi since Monday. During his stay in the national capital, he met with several top party leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, and national organisational general secretary B L Santhosh, to formally convey his decision to quit the party. Reports indicate that he also sought a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before returning to Chennai.
Kuppusamy Annamalai shot to fame in Tamil Nadu politics after transitioning from his career as an IPS officer. He joined the BJP in 2020 and experienced a rapid rise within the party organization. He was appointed as the Tamil Nadu state president in 2021, succeeding L Murugan, who had been elevated to the position of a union minister.
His exit from the party follows the recent poll debacle faced by the BJP in Tamil Nadu. Addressing his supporters ahead of his scheduled noon announcement, Annamalai posted on social media, stating that he eagerly looks forward to interacting with everyone to share his thoughts and have an open, heart-to-heart conversation.
