Chennai Mayor R Priya Files Cybercrime Complaint Over Morphed Videos

Chennai Mayor R Priya has lodged an official complaint with the cybercrime wing of the city police, alleging that unidentified individuals subjected her to repeated online harassment, cyber-stalking, and the circulation of obscene and defamatory content on social media. The mayor met directly with Chennai Commissioner of Police A Amalraj to submit a formal written complaint and seek legal action against those involved in creating and sharing the objectionable material.

According to the complaint, the targeted online harassment took place over the past few days and caused mental distress to the mayor. The complaint stated that unidentified individuals repeatedly contacted her, continuously monitored her online social media activity, and posted derogatory comments aimed at damaging her reputation.

The harassment involved the creation and dissemination of morphed images and morphed videos across various digital platforms. The complaint highlighted that these altered visuals and defamatory posts were circulated across social media networks to undermine her standing.

Before meeting the police chief in person, Mayor Priya had initially lodged an online complaint regarding the matter. To support the police investigation, her written complaint submitted to Police Commissioner A Amalraj provided a detailed list identifying multiple social media accounts that were actively engaged in sharing or circulating the objectionable content.

Following the formal filing, investigators from the city police cybercrime wing initiated a probe into the allegations. Police officers are currently analyzing the flagged social media posts, examining digital evidence, and reviewing account activity to trace those responsible. The ongoing investigation aims to identify all individuals involved in creating, uploading, and disseminating the offensive material.
