Women's Christian College Stages Sister Act Musical in Chennai

Students at Women's Christian College (WCC) in Chennai are staging a musical adaptation of the popular movie Sister Act as part of the institution's annual college play tradition, which dates back to 1917.

The production follows the success of last year's live performance of The Sound of Music, which inspired the college to bring another classic story to the stage in musical format. The production will run until September 5, with daily performances scheduled for 6:30 pm at Women's Christian College.

A total of 38 students are performing on stage as actors, choristers, and musicians. In addition, more than 300 students from across various departments have contributed to the overall production over several weeks, working in roles such as assistant directors, dramatologists, and production controllers.

The play is directed by Regin Rose, a National School of Drama graduate who has directed the college's annual play for the past five years. Rose stepped into the role after WCC initially approached a professor from Madras Christian College, who was unavailable and recommended him instead.

According to Rose, the production retains the core script and storyline of Sister Act while incorporating fresh elements and significant work in dramatology to engage audiences who are already familiar with the movie.

Tickets for the performance are priced at Rs 300, Rs 500, and Rs 750, with donor passes available at Rs 1,500. Entry passes are available at the venue subject to availability.
