Woman Dies, Grandson Injured After Being Hit by Train at Korukkupet

A 63-year-old woman died on the spot and her one-and-a-half-year-old grandson was critically injured after being struck by an EMU train while crossing the railway tracks at Korukkupet railway station on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Moideen Beevi, the wife of Abdul Kuthoos and a resident of Pulicat, according to the Korukkupet Government Railway Police (GRP). She had been accompanied by three of her grandchildren during the journey.
According to police officials, Moideen Beevi had travelled to the city to visit her granddaughter, Fathima, who had recently delivered a baby. Fathima was admitted and undergoing medical care at the RSRM Government Maternity Hospital in Royapuram.
Moideen Beevi had taken an EMU train from Ponneri to Korukkupet earlier in the day alongside her three grandchildren to see Fathima and the newborn baby. Following the hospital visit, the group returned to the Korukkupet railway station to catch a train back home to Pulicat.
While they were crossing the railway tracks at the station, an EMU train travelling towards Ponneri struck Moideen Beevi. She sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot.
Her one-and-a-half-year-old grandson, identified as Mohammed Sayan, suffered severe injuries in the incident. He was immediately rushed to the government-run Stanley Hospital, where he remains in critical condition undergoing treatment.
The other two grandchildren who were crossing the tracks alongside them managed to escape the incident unhurt, the Korukkupet Government Railway Police confirmed.
