Woman Arrested in Nanmangalam After Neighbour Dies Following Helmet Assault

A 45-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday following the death of a 47-year-old neighbour whom she allegedly assaulted with a helmet during a dispute at an apartment complex in Nanmangalam.
According to the Tambaram police, the deceased woman was identified as Manjula, who lived with her daughter in an apartment building situated on Perumal Koil Street. Police noted that Manjula had pre-existing health issues.
The incident took place last week when an argument broke out between Manjula and another resident of the apartment complex, identified as Viji, 45. The dispute between the two women reportedly started over the drying of clothes. During the altercation, Viji allegedly attacked Manjula with a helmet.
Following the assault, Manjula initially received treatment at a private hospital and subsequently returned home. Her condition later worsened, and on August 25, she was admitted to a private multi-specialty hospital in Kovilambakkam after she fainted.
Manjula remained under medical care at the hospital, where she succumbed to her condition on September 1. Following her death, authorities at the hospital alerted local law enforcement.
The Medavakkam police arranged for Manjula's body to be taken to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination and formally arrested Viji.
