Unidentified assailants stab 55-year-old woman to death in Pulicat robbery

A 55-year-old woman was stabbed to death inside her home near the old bus stand in Pulicat, Tiruvallur district, near Chennai, during a daylight robbery on Monday afternoon. Unidentified assailants murdered the woman, identified as Vanaja, and escaped with 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery from the residence.

Vanaja resided with her husband, Radhakrishnan, in their home near the old bus stand. The couple has three children, including one son and two daughters, all of whom are married and live elsewhere. While Radhakrishnan runs a local grocery shop located close to their house, Vanaja operated a small business selling flour directly from their home.

According to the police, the events unfolded on Monday morning when Vanaja carried tea to her husband at his grocery shop. After delivering the tea, she returned to their house.

Later in the afternoon, Radhakrishnan returned home from his shop and found the house locked. Upon opening the door to enter, he discovered his wife lying in a pool of blood inside. Vanaja had sustained a fatal stab wound to her neck.

Hearing Radhakrishnan’s cries of distress, neighbours rushed to the house and immediately alerted the Thirupalaivanam police. Officers from the police station arrived at the scene shortly after to initiate an investigation.

Preliminary inquiries conducted by the police indicate that the suspects might have gained entry into the house on the pretext of purchasing flour from Vanaja. Once inside, they allegedly attacked her, committed the theft of the 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery, and fled.

The Thirupalaivanam police have registered a case and launched an active search to identify and apprehend the unidentified suspects involved in the murder and robbery.
