Two Men Surrender After Beating Friend to Death Near Somangalam

A 32-year-old meat shop worker was beaten to death by his two friends at a vacant site along the Somangalam-Sethuputtu Road near Somangalam on Wednesday night. The fatal attack occurred after an argument broke out between the men during a drinking session.
The victim, identified as Rajesh, was a resident of Sethuputtu near Somangalam. Rajesh, who worked at a local meat shop, was married and leaves behind his wife and two children.
According to the police, the incident began on Wednesday night when two of Rajesh's friends, identified as Thangam and Anandajothi, took him out in a car to consume alcohol. Both suspects lived in the same locality as the victim.
The group drove to a vacant site located along the Somangalam-Sethuputtu Road to drink. While they were consuming alcohol, a heated argument erupted among the three men. The suspects later claimed that the dispute began after Rajesh made obscene remarks regarding women in their families.
Angered by the comments, Thangam and Anandajothi turned violent. The two men attacked Rajesh using a stone and an iron rod, inflicting fatal injuries that killed him on the spot.
When Rajesh failed to return home on Wednesday night, his anxious family members began searching the area for him. The search ended on Thursday morning when Thangam and Anandajothi surrendered at the Somangalam police station.
During their surrender, the two men confessed to the killing and led the police to the crime scene. The Somangalam police recovered Rajesh's body and subsequently sent it to the Tambaram Government Hospital for a postmortem examination.
The police have registered a murder case against Thangam and Anandajothi and have detained them for further questioning. The investigation is currently underway to establish whether the offensive remarks were the sole motive for the murder or if there were other reasons behind the killing.
