Two Men Arrested Near SK Theatre in Alandur With 390 Painkiller Tablets

Two men were arrested in the St Thomas Mount area of Chennai on Wednesday afternoon after police caught them in possession of 390 painkiller tablets intended for illegal sale. The operation was carried out near SK Theatre on MKN Road and Asar Khan Street in Alandur by a joint team comprising personnel from the Chennai Police Anti Narcotic Task Force and the S-1 St Thomas Mount police station.
The arrested individuals were identified by police as 24-year-old Vinoth, a resident of Kovur, and 28-year-old Pradeep Kumar, residing in Nandambakkam. Along with the 390 painkiller tablets, the enforcement personnel seized two mobile phones found in their possession.
The arrests followed specific intelligence received by law enforcement regarding the illicit trade of prescription drugs in the locality. Acting on the tip-off, the joint team mounted surveillance across MKN Road and Asar Khan Street in Alandur. During the operation, police spotted the two suspects standing suspiciously with a bag in the vicinity of SK Theatre and moved in to intercept them. A search of the bag revealed the cache of 390 painkiller tablets.
According to police officials, preliminary investigations indicated that the duo had established an interstate procurement network, sourcing the painkiller tablets from Nagpur through a courier service. They subsequently distributed and sold the tablets illegally to buyers in Chennai.
Investigators also established that Vinoth was a repeat offender, with three previous cases already registered against him in connection with the illegal sale of painkiller tablets.
The S-1 St Thomas Mount police have registered a case against both Vinoth and Pradeep Kumar. Following their arrest and questioning, both men were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
