Two Chennai Police Constables Die After Speeding Car Hits Them Near Poonamallee

Two Chennai Armed Reserve Police constables have died and another remains injured after a speeding car rammed into them on the roadside at Pazhanjur in Sembarambakkam, near Poonamallee. The death toll in the accident rose to two on Thursday after 27-year-old constable Arur Kumar succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a government hospital.
The deceased officers have been identified as Tamil Selvan, aged 32, and Arur Kumar, aged 27. Both men, along with the injured constable, 28-year-old Saravanakumar, were natives of Melur in Madurai district. All three were serving as constables in the Chennai Armed Reserve Police.
According to officials, the three policemen, accompanied by two other people, had travelled to Ranipet to attend a friend’s wedding four days ago. The accident occurred late at night while the group was returning to Chennai from the wedding.
During their journey back, they stopped their car on the roadside near Pazhanjur in Sembarambakkam, close to Poonamallee. Some of the passengers got down from the vehicle to stand on the side of the road. It was at this time that a speeding car coming from behind rammed into the policemen standing on the roadside.
The force of the collision killed Tamil Selvan on the spot. The other two constables, Arur Kumar and Saravanakumar, sustained grievous injuries in the crash. Both of the injured men were rushed to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where they were admitted and underwent treatment. Arur Kumar subsequently died of his injuries on Thursday, while Saravanakumar continues to receive care.
Following the fatal collision, the Avadi Traffic Investigation Wing police registered a case. Local authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
