Two Chennai Police Constables Die After Speeding Car Hits Them Near Poonamallee

Two Chennai Armed Reserve Police constables have died and another was injured after a speeding car rammed into them near Pazhanjur in Sembarambakkam, close to Poonamallee. The death toll in the tragic road accident rose to two on Thursday after 27-year-old police constable Arur Kumar succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a government hospital.
The deceased officers, identified as 32-year-old Tamil Selvan and 27-year-old Arur Kumar, along with the injured officer, 28-year-old Saravanakumar, were all serving in the Armed Reserve Police in Chennai. All three of the policemen were natives of Melur, which is located in the Madurai district.
According to police sources, the three officers, accompanied by two other individuals, had travelled to Ranipet to attend a friend’s wedding four days prior to the accident. The group was returning to Chennai late at night when the fatal collision occurred.
During their return journey, they decided to stop their car on the side of the road near Pazhanjur in Sembarambakkam, close to Poonamallee. Some of the passengers, including the police constables, got down from the vehicle and were standing along the roadside.
As they stood by the road, a speeding car coming from behind lost control and rammed directly into the policemen. The impact of the collision was severe, causing Tamil Selvan to die on the spot.
The other two constables, Arur Kumar and Saravanakumar, sustained grievous injuries in the crash. Both of the injured men were quickly rushed to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where they were admitted and placed under treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Arur Kumar succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, raising the final death toll of the accident to two. Saravanakumar continues to undergo treatment at the hospital.
Following the incident, the Avadi Traffic Investigation Wing police registered a formal case. The police are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash.
