TVS Motor Begins Production of Norton Atlas Motorcycles at Hosur Facility

TVS Motor Company has officially shifted the production of Norton Motorcycles' Atlas adventure bikes to India, rolling out the first unit from its manufacturing facility in Hosur. The move, which marks the company's entry into manufacturing motorcycles above 500cc, leverages its local production scale to build the iconic British brand's vehicles for global markets.

The 585cc Norton Atlas and its road-focused sibling, the Atlas GT, were designed and engineered at Norton's headquarters in Solihull, United Kingdom. Under the new production arrangement, these middleweight premium motorcycles will be manufactured at the Hosur plant for export to global markets. An official global launch is scheduled for next month, with international sales expected to begin in the third quarter of the year.

Sutapa Choudhary, the British deputy high commissioner for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala, joined K N Radhakrishnan, the director and CEO of TVS Motor Company, to mark the rollout of the first motorcycle at the Hosur facility.

In a statement, Radhakrishnan noted that the rollout combines British design and engineering with Indian manufacturing capabilities. TVS Motor acquired the historic Norton brand in 2020. While product design, engineering, and brand development remain anchored in the UK, large-scale manufacturing has been transitioned to TVS's facilities in India. Meanwhile, Norton's Solihull plant remains dedicated to the production of the Manx R superbike.

The Atlas motorcycles are also expected to launch in India later this year. They will be sold through TVS Paddock, the company's newly established premium retail network, as part of its effort to expand its presence in the domestic high-end motorcycle market alongside its global expansion plans.

The transition to producing the 585cc Atlas represents a significant milestone for TVS Motor, marking its first venture into manufacturing motorcycles with engine capacities exceeding 500cc. Previously, the company's premium manufacturing at Hosur was limited to sub-500cc category motorcycles for BMW Motorrad, producing more than 2 lakh units under that partnership.

The Atlas and its road-focused sibling, the Atlas GT, mark Norton’s return to the adventure and sport-touring segments, which are two of the largest and fastest-growing categories in the global motorcycle market.
