TVK MLA R Pallavi Brings Newborn to Assembly, Hits Back at Online Critics

First-time Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA R Pallavi, who represents the Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar constituency in Chennai, has drawn significant public attention for bringing her newborn baby to the ongoing Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly session.
Official sources confirmed on Tuesday that the legislator brings her infant along with her to the Assembly complex. While she participates in the legislative proceedings inside the main house, the newborn is looked after by an attendant. The caregiver stays with the baby in a separate room located near the Assembly hall until Pallavi finishes her work and returns.
During the session, Pallavi also took her newborn to meet Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, who is the founder of the TVK party. The meeting took place within the Assembly premises, where the Chief Minister blessed the infant.
The MLA's choice to bring her child to the legislature sparked discussion on social media, with some users accusing her of "creating a scene" by carrying the infant to her workplace. Pallavi firmly rejected these remarks, describing the accusations as completely unfair and defending her necessity to care for the infant.
Speaking to a YouTube channel, Pallavi questioned the basis of the criticism directed at her. She asked what there was to create a scene about and stressed that it was not possible for her to leave a newborn behind at home while attending official duties. She asked critics to think carefully before commenting on such matters and requested people to refrain from trolling even if they could not empathise with the personal difficulties of others.
Pallavi entered the legislature after winning the Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar constituency in Chennai during the April 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The ongoing session of the state legislative assembly is scheduled to proceed until September 8.
