TVK Expels Advocate M Gnanasoundari Over Madras High Court Corruption Petition

The Villupuram district unit of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party on Saturday expelled advocate M Gnanasoundari from its primary membership. This disciplinary action was taken just days after she filed a petition in the Madras High Court alleging corruption in the appointment of government law officers in district courts.
In an official statement regarding the decision, TVK Villupuram south district secretary N Mohanraj explained the reasons behind her expulsion. Mohanraj stated that Gnanasoundari, who had initially joined the political party online, had colluded with the party's enemies and made false allegations against the TVK. Because her actions were deemed to have gone directly against the fundamental principles of the party, she was expelled from the primary membership. Mohanraj also urged all party cadres and functionaries to strictly avoid associating with her in the future.
The controversy stems from the petition Gnanasoundari filed in the Madras High Court. In her plea, she alleged that TVK functionaries had collected bribes ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 30 lakh from various advocates. These large sums of money were allegedly taken in exchange for securing appointments as government law officers in district courts.
The Madras High Court officially disposed of the petition on Friday. The disposal of the case occurred after the government submitted to the court that Gnanasoundari's own applications for the government law officer posts would be considered.
In response to the allegations raised in the petition, Law Minister R Nirmalkumar denied all claims of corruption. Nirmalkumar stated that the appointments of the government law officers were temporary. He added a warning that anyone found to be involved in any irregularities in the appointment process would be removed from their position immediately.
