Triplicane Police Recover 400 Missing Mobile Phones, Hand Them Back to Owners

The Triplicane police on Thursday handed over 400 recovered mobile phones to their rightful owners during an event held at the Deputy Commissioner of Police office in Chintadripet. The devices had been reported missing across various police station limits within the Triplicane police district and were tracked down from multiple locations across Tamil Nadu and other states.

The recovery operation followed numerous complaints lodged by residents regarding lost and stolen mobile phones. The grievances were officially received at police stations operating under the Triplicane police district and entered into the Community Service Register. To trace the missing equipment, the Cyber Crime Wing and special teams from the Triplicane police initiated a detailed investigation.

As part of the tracing process, investigating teams relied on the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. By monitoring the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers linked to the missing and stolen handsets, police kept track of active signals and discovered that several devices were actively being used in Tamil Nadu and other parts of India.

Police personnel subsequently tracked down the individuals in possession of the handsets, conducted inquiries, and successfully secured the devices. A total of 400 mobile phones were recovered during the drive. After verifying ownership credentials to confirm the legitimate claimants, officials arranged for their return.

Deputy Commissioner Jayachandran handed over the recovered mobile phones directly to the complainants at the district office in Chintadripet.

Following the successful recovery, the police advised the public to immediately lodge a formal complaint at their nearest police station whenever a mobile phone is lost or stolen. Officials also urged citizens to register missing devices promptly on the CEIR portal to enable swift tracking and recovery.
