A 56-year-old man died at a private hospital on Sunday, two days after he was assaulted by his son during a domestic dispute at their home in Ayodhya Nagar in Triplicane. Following his death, the police altered the case from attempt to murder to murder and arrested the son.

The deceased was identified as Kumar, who worked as a traffic signal technician at Chennai Port. He lived with his wife, Amudha. His son, 34-year-old Tamilselvan, had been living separately following his divorce.
