Tree falls on motorcycle at Duraisamy Subway in T. Nagar, injuring rider

A 35-year-old motorcyclist escaped with minor injuries after an uprooted roadside tree fell onto his moving two-wheeler at the Duraisamy Subway in T. Nagar on Tuesday afternoon. The incident, which took place at approximately 4:45 p.m. on July 7, 2026, caused a complete halt of vehicular movement through the subway and triggered traffic disruptions in the busy neighborhood for over an hour.
According to the Chennai Traffic Police, the motorcyclist has been identified as Siviyon Pandian, a resident of Ramapuram. Pandian was riding his motorcycle through the Duraisamy Subway when a tree on the roadside was suddenly uprooted by strong winds and fell.
The uprooted tree fell directly onto the moving motorcycle. Although the heavy impact of the falling tree caused significant damage to Pandian's two-wheeler, he managed to escape the incident with only minor injuries.
The presence of the large tree across the road immediately blocked the subway, making it impossible for other vehicles to pass through. Local traffic police officers rushed to the spot to handle the situation. To prevent further gridlock, the officers blocked the affected stretch and initiated diversions, directing vehicles away from the subway.
Simultaneously, personnel from the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services arrived at the scene to clear the blockage. The rescue team worked to cut the uprooted tree and clear the debris from the roadway.
After the emergency personnel successfully cleared the fallen tree from the path, the traffic police reopened the route. Normal traffic flow through the Duraisamy Subway was restored after more than an hour of disruption.
