Tower Reads hosts weekly outdoor reading sessions at Anna Nagar Tower Park

Local reading group Tower Reads has been gathering book lovers at Anna Nagar Tower Park every Saturday morning for nearly three years to help residents rekindle their reading habits. Organized by Krishna Kumar, the weekly meetups run from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM under the park's landmark tower.

The community initiative encourages participants to bring their own books and read silently in the company of others. The weekly gathering offers a mindful, nature-filled environment designed to help people slow down, overcome reading slumps, and carve out dedicated personal time.

According to organizer Krishna Kumar, the group was established to fill a gap in the local community. "There weren’t many reading groups around when we started, and none that would meet on Saturday," Kumar said. He noted that the park setting allows people to be in nature, slow down, and find time for themselves.

During the sessions, attendees sit together under the tower, reading books of their own choice. While the primary focus is silent reading, the gatherings also foster social connections among local book lovers. Participants often stroll around the park and share enthused responses when asked about what they are currently reading.

The initiative has become a regular fixture for morning people in the neighborhood who wish to engage in mindful reading at the crack of dawn, despite the challenges of Chennai's warm weather. The sessions run for three hours, allowing participants to progress through their reading lists in a relaxed, outdoor environment.

The weekly meetups require no prior registration. Interested readers can join the session by arriving at Anna Nagar Tower Park with a book of their choice during the scheduled Saturday morning hours. More information about the group can be found on their Instagram page, @towerreads.
