Toddler dies after mother's dupatta tangles in motorcycle wheel in Chengalpet

A one-and-a-half-year-old boy was killed and his parents were seriously injured on Tuesday evening following a motorcycle crash in Manamathi village near Thiruporur in Chengalpet district. The fatal accident occurred after the mother’s dupatta got entangled in the rear wheel of the moving vehicle.

The deceased child has been identified as Visagan. He was traveling with his father, Pushparaj, aged 29, and his mother, Pavithra, aged 23. The family are residents of Ammanambakkam village, which is located near Thirukazhukundram.

According to local police officials, the family of three was traveling from Thirukazhukundram toward Thiruporur on their motorcycle. During the journey, the toddler was sitting on his mother’s lap.

As they were passing through Manamathi village on the Thirukazhukundram–Thiruporur Road, Pavithra’s dupatta suddenly got caught in the rear wheel of the motorcycle. The entanglement caused Pushparaj to lose control of the vehicle.

Consequently, all three occupants were thrown off the motorcycle and onto the road. The toddler, Visagan, sustained severe head injuries as a result of the impact.

Passersby who witnessed the accident immediately alerted the local police. The injured family members were rushed to the Thiruporur Government Hospital for emergency medical attention.

Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors declared the toddler dead. The parents, Pushparaj and Pavithra, sustained severe injuries in the crash. After receiving initial attention, they were referred to the Chengalpattu Government Medical College Hospital for further medical treatment.

The Thiruporur police have officially registered a case and sent the body of the child for a postmortem examination. Further investigations into the accident are currently underway by the local authorities.
