TNSCZMA Orders Demolition of Unauthorized Compound Wall in Injambakkam

The Tamil Nadu State Coastal Zone Management Authority (TNSCZMA) has directed VGP Housing Limited to demolish an approximately 120-metre-long reinforced cement concrete compound wall built without coastal clearance in Injambakkam. The real estate firm commenced demolition operations at the site on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

The final order was issued on July 8, 2026, by Asha Ajith, member secretary of the TNSCZMA. It pertains to land situated at Survey No. 15-198 in Injambakkam village, where the company had undertaken the construction of the compound wall.

During a prior inspection of the location, officials found that the construction work had reached the foundation stage. Inspecting teams documented the presence of construction materials, including M-sand and stone aggregates, as well as an excavator parked at the site. The property falls under the Coastal Regulation Zone-II (CRZ-II) classification.

During a personal hearing conducted on June 23, 2026, VGP Housing Limited informed authorities that the wall was intended to safeguard the property, prevent misuse, and ensure cleanliness and security. The company also acknowledged during the proceedings that the land parcel is located within the CRZ area.

Following the hearing, the authority concluded that the construction had been carried out in direct violation of the CRZ Notification, 2011, as it lacked the mandatory regulatory approvals.

The TNSCZMA's directive mandated that VGP Housing Limited execute the demolition while strictly adhering to the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Rules, 2016. Furthermore, the authority instructed the Chennai Collector and other relevant officials to oversee the process, ensure compliance, and submit an action-taken report.
