TNPL Not Falling Behind Other State Leagues, Says N Jagadeesan

Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter N Jagadeesan stated that the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is not lagging behind other state leagues in producing quality players, emphasizing that playing conditions must be taken into account when evaluating a tournament.

While the Delhi Premier League (DPL) has recently drawn attention for high scores on batting-friendly surfaces, Jagadeesan noted that the TNPL offers a distinct and vital challenge in Chennai and across the state. In his assessment, high-scoring matches on flat tracks should not serve as the sole benchmark for measuring a tournament's standards.

Jagadeesan explained that the TNPL has traditionally tested batters through slower and turning surfaces that keep spin bowlers actively involved in matches. He noted that while playing surfaces in Chennai have improved, facing challenging conditions provides a better platform for players to demonstrate true batsmanship.

He pointed out that while scoring runs is easier on flat wickets, more testing pitches demand greater skill and technique. According to the wicketkeeper-batter, challenging surfaces prevent players from attacking aggressively from the opening delivery, particularly when facing spinners.

Jagadeesan maintained that the tournament should continue preserving a balance between bat and ball instead of shifting toward completely batting-dominated contests.
