TNEA 2026 Rank List Released, Engineering Counselling To Begin On July 20

On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister P. Viswanathan released the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2026 merit rank list and announced that single-window counselling for undergraduate engineering courses will begin on July 20, 2026. The admission process is for colleges affiliated with Anna University in Chennai.
A total of 2,36,000-plus students made it to the merit list out of more than 2.45 lakh candidates who registered and paid the fee. The qualified applicants include 1,30,767 boys, 1,05,245 girls, and five trans persons. Candidates have until July 6 to submit grievances regarding the merit list for redressal.
The rank list also features 46,604 government school students who qualified under the 7.5% horizontal reservation category, out of 50,494 who applied. This reservation applies to students who studied in government schools from Classes VI to XII.
Online counselling for general category students under special reservations—including the sports quota, differently-abled quota, and ex-servicemen quota—will take place from July 15 to July 18. For horizontal reservation students in these special categories, online counselling will be held on July 13 and July 14.
The academic stream counselling for general category students will be conducted in three rounds. The first round of choice filling will run from July 20 to July 22 for 37,976 students with cut-off marks between 200 and 171.333. The deadline to confirm tentative allotments for this round is July 25.
The second round of academic counselling will be held between August 3 and August 5 for 93,117 candidates with cut-off marks between 171 and 135.75. The final round will feature 1,02,719 candidates, with choice filling scheduled from August 17 to August 19.
For the vocational stream, which has one round of counselling, choice filling will be open between July 20 and July 22. This stream will include 2,205 general category students and 524 horizontal reservation category students.
