TNCC passes resolution at Chennai headquarters to oppose Karnataka Mekedatu dam

The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) has passed a resolution vowing to oppose Karnataka's Mekedatu dam project during a meeting of district presidents held at the party headquarters in Chennai.

The committee declared that Karnataka’s move to build the Mekedatu dam is in direct violation of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal’s final award as well as the 2018 Supreme Court judgement. The TNCC stated that the move amounted to contempt of court.

In response to the proposed project, the TNCC vowed to intensify its opposition. The party reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights of Cauvery delta farmers, whose livelihoods depend on the water source.

The meeting of district presidents also welcomed a statement from TNCC President Manickam Tagore. Tagore had previously stated that "not even a single brick" would be allowed to be laid for the Mekedatu project without the approval of Tamil Nadu.
