TNCC Chief Manickam Tagore Urges BJP and PMK Leaders to Condemn Karnataka BJP

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B. Manickam Tagore on Sunday urged BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran and Pattali Makkal Katchi leader Anbumani Ramadoss to condemn the Karnataka BJP unit for announcing protests against the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

The challenge from the Congress MP came a day ahead of the Supreme Court's scheduled hearing on the Cauvery water dispute.

In a message posted on social media platform X, Tagore stated that the Tamil Nadu government had approached the Supreme Court seeking a directive to the Karnataka government to release Cauvery water as per the designated schedule.

Tagore noted that the Karnataka government had initiated the release of water ahead of the Supreme Court hearing scheduled for Monday, as it understood its legal standing before the bench.

However, Tagore highlighted that the Karnataka BJP unit, led by former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, had announced plans to stage protests and besiege the dams from which water is currently being released to Tamil Nadu.

The Congress leader asserted that the BJP was attempting to block the rights of Tamil Nadu, adding that the state would not forgive this betrayal.

Tagore further stated that the Tamil Nadu Congress unit would not hesitate to condemn the Congress-led government in Karnataka over the Cauvery issue. In contrast, he pointed out that Nainar Nagenthran has been unable to condemn his fellow party members across the border.

Questioning the stance of local opposition figures, Tagore asked why both Nainar Nagenthran and Anbumani Ramadoss have chosen to remain silent regarding the actions and planned protests of the Karnataka BJP.
