TN to Set Up Nine Industrial Estates for Women Entrepreneurs at Rs 237 Crore

The Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to establish nine industrial estates exclusively for women entrepreneurs across eight districts, including Madhavaram in Chennai. Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Minister P Mathan Raja announced the initiative in the state legislative assembly on Tuesday, stating that the project is part of a broader push to strengthen the MSME sector and generate local employment.

The nine specialized industrial estates will be developed through the Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) with an estimated investment of Rs 237 crore. According to the state government, the initiative is projected to generate employment opportunities for approximately 5,100 people once operational.

In addition to the site at Madhavaram in Chennai, the women-exclusive industrial estates will be set up across several regions in the state. The designated locations include Thiruvathavur in Madurai district, Suriyur and Manapparai in Trichy district, Periyaseeragapatti in Salem district, Minnur in Tirupattur district, Sangaraperi in Tuticorin district, Narasinganallur in Tirunelveli district, and Palayapatti in Thanjavur district.

Tamil Nadu currently has five exclusive industrial parks dedicated to women entrepreneurs, located in the Salem, Trichy, Madurai, Kancheepuram, and Tiruvallur districts.

During his assembly address, Minister Mathan Raja also unveiled plans for five additional general industrial estates across 234 acres of land in Chennai and neighboring districts at an outlay of Rs 171 crore. These new estates will be established at Naidukuppam, Thervaikandigai, and Kannankottai in Tiruvallur district, as well as Erumayur and Varadharajapuram in Kancheepuram district.
