TN to Give Sports Jerseys to 23 Lakh Govt School Students, Minister Announces

In an announcement made in the legislative assembly in Chennai on Monday, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Rajmohan stated that the state government will provide sports jerseys to 23 lakh students studying in Classes IX to XII across government and government-aided schools.

Speaking during the debate on the demand for grants for school education, the minister announced that schools will dedicate one period to sports, arts, and co-curricular activities. To nurture young athletic talent, the state government will also develop 50 government high and higher secondary schools into specialised sports plus schools.

Alongside the sports-focused measures, the minister outlined several healthcare and academic initiatives for school students. The government will launch dental, eye, and ear health check-ups for government school students in partnership with hospitals.

In the technology and digital education sphere, the state will introduce an AI-powered personalised and adaptive learning initiative, known as TN-PAL, across 500 government middle schools for students in Classes VI to VIII.

Minister Rajmohan also shared plans for long-term curriculum reform, stating that a new curriculum designed to equip students with analytical thinking, problem-solving, innovation, entrepreneurship, and proficiency in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies will be implemented across all schools starting from the 2027-28 academic year.
