TN Signs 97 MoUs Worth Rs 67,000 Crore at Chennai Conclave

The Tamil Nadu government inked 97 fresh Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) representing a total investment commitment of over Rs 67,000 crore in Chennai on Thursday. The official exchange of agreements took place during the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government's first "Vettri Tamil Nadu Investors Conclave 2026", held in the presence of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and Industries Minister S Keerthana.

The agreements signed during the event mark a major investment milestone for the state administration since it formed the government in May. The pacts are expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for more than one lakh people across a wide range of sectors. These sectors include automotive, renewables, life science, electronics, research and development (R&D), and data centres.

Speaking on the occasion, Industries Minister S Keerthana stated that the state has successfully secured a strong mix of greenfield and brownfield capital. She explained that this includes new investors choosing Tamil Nadu for the first time, as well as existing companies that are expanding their presence after experiencing the local workforce and available infrastructure.

According to the minister, cumulative investment commitments during the first 100 days of the new TVK government will cross Rs one lakh crore, which is projected to generate more than 1.20 lakh job opportunities. Keerthana highlighted that this translates to an average commitment of Rs 1,000 crore for every single day the government has been in office. Addressing the gathering of business leaders, she stated that while some would consider the total number a significant milestone, the true story lies in the confidence investors have shown in the state's governance.

With the latest signings in Chennai, the total number of MoUs inked since the TVK formed the government in May has reached 104. The overall investments committed under these pacts stand at around Rs one lakh crore. State officials noted that these investment drives form an integral part of the Tamil Nadu government's overarching vision to build a USD 1.5 trillion economy.
