TN Sanctions Rs 6.85 Crore Annual Budget for VIP Protocol Expenses

The Tamil Nadu government has sanctioned a dedicated annual budget of ₹6.85 crore to cover protocol-related expenses during visits by VIPs, VVIPs, and other senior dignitaries across districts in the state. The Revenue and Disaster Management Department issued a Government Order in Chennai revising the framework for managing boarding, lodging, and transportation costs for visiting dignitaries.

Under the newly revised arrangement, individual districts across Tamil Nadu will be allocated between ₹15 lakh and ₹25 lakh per year. The exact funding provided to each district will depend on the frequency of dignitary visits to that area.

The new system replaces an earlier framework that imposed a strict spending ceiling of ₹50,000 per visit. The state government stated that the previous limits had become inadequate as the frequency, scale, and complexity of high-profile visits increased over time.

The updated protocol allocation will cover expenses for visits by high-profile figures, including the President of India, Supreme Court and High Court judges, Union and State government officials, constitutional authorities, and international delegations.
