TN Releases MBBS and BDS Rank List, Medical Counselling to Begin August 13

The Tamil Nadu government on Monday released the state rank list for MBBS and BDS admissions for the 2026-27 academic year, with medical counselling scheduled to commence on August 13. State Health Minister K G Arun Raj announced the rank list during a press conference in Chennai.

Venkatapathy Velayutham from Villuppuram topped the general category with a NEET score of 705. Srinika B from Pudukkottai secured the second rank with 700 marks, followed by Sudar from Virudhunagar with 696 marks. Offline counselling for special category students will be held at the Omandurar Government Medical College in Chennai, while general counselling will proceed online.

Under the 7.5 per cent preferential reservation for government school students, 641 seats—comprising 537 MBBS and 104 BDS seats—have been allocated this year out of 3,225 accepted applications. Dinesh from Nagapattinam secured the top rank in this quota. The minister noted that available BDS seats for state counselling were reduced to 200 this year following the de-recognition of one college and another shifting to deemed university status.

Health department officials disqualified five applicants this year for submitting fake NEET scorecards and documents, including one candidate who actually scored 170 marks but forged the application to show 552. The minister stated that disqualifications due to fake documents decreased from 25 last year, though strict action is being taken against tampering. Additionally, verification of 512 NRI quota applications is underway through respective embassies, with 212 verified so far.

Addressing complaints regarding private medical colleges overcharging students, the minister confirmed that an internal inquiry established proof of excess fee collection against one institution, escalating the matter to the Fee Fixation Committee. Two other complaints were dropped after complainants failed to produce bank statements. Minister Arun Raj reiterated Tamil Nadu's ongoing opposition to NEET, advocating for moving 'Education' and 'Medicine' from the Concurrent List to the State List.

The state also released the rank list for paramedical courses, including BSc Nursing and B Pharm based on Class 12 board marks, where Cuddalore district students swept the top three ranks. The government ruled out any further extensions for application rectifications, urging students to adhere strictly to the counselling timetable.
