TN Govt Sanctions Rs 30.75 Crore for Kolathur College Phase II Expansion

The Tamil Nadu government has granted administrative sanction for the Phase II expansion of the Kapaleeswarar Arts and Science College in Kolathur, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) C. Ramesh announced in the Legislative Assembly on Monday.

Responding to questions raised by Kolathur MLA V. S. Babu during Question Hour, the minister stated that the government has sanctioned Rs 30.75 crore for the Phase II project. This follows the completion of the Phase I facility, which was built at a cost of Rs 25 crore on a 5.96-acre campus.

Under the newly approved expansion, the department will soon invite tenders for the construction of new academic buildings, a dedicated girls' hostel, an auditorium, and sports grounds.

Ramesh said that a comprehensive review of the Kolathur campus will be undertaken once the ongoing Assembly session concludes. He added that the feasibility of introducing evening classes at the institution will also be examined after the completion of the upcoming construction works.

In addition to infrastructure development, the minister noted that the issue of salary revisions for college teaching and non-teaching staff remains under active consideration, based on an assessment of the department's financial resources.
