TN Govt Assigns Ministers to Oversee Monsoon Preparedness in Adyar and Other Zones

The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday appointed ministers and senior IAS officers to oversee all 15 zones of the Greater Chennai Corporation, including Adyar, to expedite development works and strengthen flood preparedness ahead of the northeast monsoon.

According to an order issued by Chief Secretary M Sai Kumar, ministers holding district-level monitoring responsibilities have received additional charge of specific civic zones. They are tasked with monitoring ongoing development works and coordinating emergency relief measures throughout the monsoon period.

Transport Minister A Vijay Tamilan Parthiban has been assigned to monitor Adyar and Alandur zones. PWD and Sports Minister Aadhav Arjuna will serve as the coordinator for all 15 zones across the city.

Among other zone allocations, HR&CE Minister S Ramesh will oversee Tiruvottiyur and Manali, while Commercial Taxes Minister T Lokesh Tamilselvan has been assigned Madhavaram and Tondiarpet. Health Minister K G Arunraj will oversee Royapuram and Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, and Handlooms Minister M Vijay Balaji will manage Ambattur, Anna Nagar, and Teynampet. Environment Minister T K Prabhu has been placed in charge of Kodambakkam and Valasaravakkam, and Tasmac Minister K Vignesh will monitor Perungudi and Sholinganallur.

In a separate order, the state government appointed monitoring officers for each of the 15 zones to inspect storm water drain works and ensure operational readiness for relief activities.

These monitoring officers have been instructed to visit their designated zones in coordination with Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner GS Sameeran. Their duties include reviewing local preparedness, mapping vulnerable areas, and supervising community participation and other flood-mitigation initiatives.
