TN Cyber Crime Wing Headquarters in Ashok Nagar Designated as State Coordination Centre

CHENNAI — The Tamil Nadu government has designated the Cyber Crime Wing Headquarters at the Police Training College Complex in Ashok Nagar as the Tamil Nadu State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (TN-S4C) to ensure swift assistance to victims and enhance inter-agency coordination.

The newly designated centre will function as the State-level nodal agency to coordinate with law enforcement agencies of the Union and State governments for the prevention, detection, and investigation of cyber crimes, as well as for providing prosecution support.

The government order comes in the wake of a Supreme Court directive issued on December 1 in a suo motu writ petition. The apex court had directed the Union government, States, and Union Territories to establish and operationalise a coordination mechanism to address matters concerning 'Digital Arrest' scams.

Following the court ruling, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs issued directions to establish State-level nodal centres for coordinated responses, intelligence sharing, and cyber forensic support. Director-General of Police and Head of Police Force Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal had subsequently requested the State government to notify the existing specialised division in Chennai as TN-S4C to align fully with national frameworks.

The State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre located at the Cyber Crime Wing Headquarters in Ashok Nagar had previously been declared a police station with statewide jurisdiction. Under the new order, the wing will perform its TN-S4C coordination duties in addition to its existing responsibilities as a police station.

According to the government order, the centre will facilitate inter-agency cooperation, intelligence sharing, capacity building, and cyber forensic assistance to ensure the effective enforcement of cyber laws. The centre will function under the immediate administrative control of the Additional Director-General of Police, Cyber Crime Wing.
